Four DHS students participate in the 2008 Native American Journalism Career Conference Four Durango High School students will participate in the 2008 Native American Journalism Career Conference April 21-24 in South Dakota. The students are Janice Canuto, Piper Hamlin, Caleb Rael, and Everett Rice. The conference will introduce and promote journalism as a career path for Native youth since Native Americans are the most underrepresented group in America’s newsrooms. DFEE receives grant from Ballantine Family Fund The Durango Foundation for Educational Excellence (DFEE) received a grant from the Ballantine Family Fund that will support the DFEE-funded Social Emotional Learning program for Durango School District 9-R elementary students. Social Emotional Learning is a curriculum that encourages respectful interactions, truthfulness, and other character traits that lead to a more positive school environment and as a result, an increase in academic achievement.
