9-R receives Safe Routes to School Grant

DURANGO, Colo. - Durango School District 9-R has been awarded a $35,000 dollar grant from the Colorado Department of Transportation to make walking and biking to school safer. Funds will be used for education and to augment county and district maps to include community sidewalks and bike paths.  

As part of the annual Drive Safe Campaign, in conjunction with the school district, the Durango Fire and Rescue Authority will have firefighters and fire trucks located at the following locations to serve as a reminder for the community to take extra safety precautions, especially around school zones:

Tues., Aug 19:

·        Durango High School on Main Avenue 

Wed., Aug. 20:

·        Florida Mesa Elementary on Highway 172 at the Grange

·        Park Elementary at 4th on College

·        Riverview Elementary at the 1400 block of Florida Road

·        Sunnyside Elementary off Highway 550

·        Miller Middle School on Junction Street
