DURANGO, Colo. - Archie Ribera has been named as an Apprentice Lineman for La Plata Electric Association, working toward his journeyman status and training for the occupation responsible for constructing and maintaining the electric power transmission lines and distribution facilities in the region.

Ribera joined LPEA in July 2007 as an equipment operator based in the Durango headquarters. A native of Ignacio, he spent some time in Phoenix before moving to Pagosa Springs where he worked for the Colorado Department of Transportation on Wolf Creek Pass. The opportunity at LPEA – about which he said, “I love being here” - brought him back to La Plata County. He dedicates his spare time to his family, including his 18-month-old daughter and eight-year-old son.

“We’re very pleased that Archie has stepped up to the lineman program,” said Steve Gregg, LPEA manager of operations. “Linemen are crucial to the future of the electrical system locally and in the country. We’re regularly seeking individuals interested in training for this challenging but very rewarding job.”

LPEA, a Touchstone Energy Cooperative established in 1939, provides to its nearly 30,000 members with more than 40,000 meters, safe, reliable electricity at the lowest reasonable cost, while being environmentally responsible. The cooperative offers a variety of apprentice programs and employment opportunities. To explore employment, or for additional information, visit www.lpea.coop.
