DURANGO, Colo. - Augusta Brockus, Conner McGee and Maddie Jo Robbins won overall titles at the Colorado Rockies Baseball Skills State Championship held Sat., Aug. 23 at Coca-Cola All Star Park in Lakewood, Colo. Isaiah Mayberry also qualified for the State Championship and finished fourth.
To qualify for the State Championships, participants were first required to win the local Durango competition, followed by the sectional competitions in Grand Junction and Pueblo. These winners then went against all the sectional winners from around the state. Durango area youth placed first place in three of the eight divisions.
The Rockies Baseball Skills Challenge program allows youth to showcase their talents in base running, batting and throwing with scores based on speed, distance and accuracy. It is a youth program of the Colorado Parks and Recreation Association, supported by a grant from the Colorado Rockies Baseball Organization.
