DURANGO, Colo. - Dare to live differently.  Dare to live deeply.  Dare to live at all—and bring the kids!  Maria’s Bookshop at 960 Main Avenue in Durango will host a Pre-Father’s Day Celebration of Wild Parenting in the Wild West—a release party for local author Ken Wright’s The Monkey Wrench Dad—on Monday, June 9th from 6:30 to 7:30 pm.

The Monkey Wrench Dad is a collection of 42 essays that tell the story and forge a manifesto of one family's endeavoring to live well. It is a hunt for and discovery of things to live and to fight for that challenges readers to think about and act upon why and how they live somewhere: in a landscape, in a community, in a family, and in a crazy, challenging time. As such, The Monkey Wrench Dad is about things to do, in the world we really live in, here and now.

Ken Wright is a free-lance writer, college instructor, author, and father, although not necessarily in that order. He is also a contributing editor and columnist for Inside Outside Southwest magazine, where his writings take readers on philosophical and often humorous forays into the unique life and land of the Four Corners region. As a self-described "paleo-dad," Ken's writings reflect on, and often rant for, the blessings and lessons the West's open spaces, wild places, and even wilder people offer our children – "places to create the people who can create the world to come." Ken's essays, book reviews, and news features have appeared in a variety of national and regional magazines and newspapers, and he is the author of two essay collections, A Wilder Life: Essays from Home and Why I'm Against it All.
