DURANGO, Colo. - La Plata Electric Association Manager of Engineering Ron Meier has completed the Management Internship Program (MIP) sponsored by the National Rural Electric Cooperatives Association (NRECA).

An intensive, six-week program that focuses on different management issues during three two-week sessions, MIP provides comprehensive analysis of the functions and processes of management, as well as practical application through individual and small group projects.

“The course content is high quality and all-inclusive,” said Meier, who oversees LPEA’s 14-person engineering team and engineering service providers handling new line design and construction. “One of the biggest benefits, however, came from idea sharing and networking with my classmates from other cooperatives across the country.”

Held at the Fluno Center for Executive Education at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, MIP provides instruction in all aspects of electric cooperative management, from business planning and capital-budgeting decisions to cooperative and industry legal issues and government relations.

“We’re very pleased that Ron has completed the Management Internship Program,” said Greg Munro, LPEA CEO. “The skills and information that he has amassed will benefit him personally and professionally, and strengthen our team here at La Plata Electric, ultimately helping us provide better service to our member/customers.”

As a company, LPEA supports continuing education for all staff members within their various disciplines. Currently eight LPEA staff members have received their MIP certification.

LPEA, a Touchstone Energy Cooperative established in 1939, provides to its nearly 30,000 members with more than 40,000 meters, safe, reliable electricity at the lowest reasonable cost, while being environmentally responsible.
