The 4th Annual Foam Fest, or microbrew competition at the Colorado State Fair, Pueblo, Colo., has generated yet another top honor for Steamworks Brewing Co.’s flagship beer Steam Engine Lager, as the popular beer took Gold in the “Amber Hybrid” category.
More than 150 beers from breweries throughout the country competed in 27 beer “classes,” which were developed and judged in accordance with the American Homebrewers Association (AHA) and the Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP).
The Steam Engine Lager, which features Durango’s key tourism attraction, the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad on its logo/label, is an American classic noted for its malt sweetness, hop spice and smooth, dry finish. Also recently taking the Silver Medal at the Manitou Craft Lager Festival – one among many regional honors – the beer has won Gold at the 1997, 2000 and 2006 Great American Beer Festival (GABF), Silver at the 1998 World Beer Cup in Rio de Janeiro, Silver at the 2005 GABF and Bronze at the 2003 GABF.
“Our claim that the Steam Engine Lager is one of the best beers in the world is continually being reinforced,” said Kris Oyler, Steamworks CEO. “This is a further honor for both Steamworks and Durango – the Napa Valley of hand-crafted beer.”
Steam Engine Lager is available in six-pack bottles and six-pack cans. It is also available on tap in numerous fine establishments throughout Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and soon throughout Texas.
Steamworks Brewing Co. – Durango’s “2005 Business of the Year” – is located at 801 E. Second. Ave., Durango (970.259.9200), and 442 Wolverine Drive in Bayfield Center, Bayfield (970.884.7837). Both brewpubs are open from 11 a.m., serving lunch and dinner.
