On Tuesday, February 26, the Women’s Resource Center and Mercy Regional Medical Center will host a free sneak preview of the film “Beauty Mark,” which explores the personal and cultural demands for beauty and perfection, followed by a discussion among audience members. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Abbey Theatre (128 E. College Drive, Durango).
This landmark film chronicles the life of Diane Israel, a world-champion tri-athlete whose career was ultimately ended by anorexia and athletic bulimia. Israel’s inspirational story of recovery will be followed by a discussion led by therapist Joanie Trussel, who specializes in the treatment of eating and exercise disorders.
The screening and discussion are open to the public. Parents, teachers, medical and mental health practitioners, coaches and trainers are especially encouraged to attend.
