DURANGO HERITAGE CELEBRATION

Inspired by Durango’s beginnings, this coming weekend’s Heritage Celebration commemorates the colorful and diverse history of our great town. 2010 marks the third year that The Durango Heritage Celebration has taken place. Great activities and events are scheduled to begin this Thursday, October 7th and run through Sunday, October 10th. Organizers are welcoming visitors and locals alike to participate in Durango’s Heritage Celebration.

Step back into the early period of Durango at “Opening Night at the Hank.” The festivities are free and start at 7:30 pm in the Henry Strater Theater at the historic Strater Hotel.  Live music by the Silver Mountain String Band will set the stage for this vintage style celebration. On Friday, The Durango Emporium will host “Reflections of the Past: The Grand Ball- a Tea and Fashion Show” at the Hank at Noon. On Saturday, downtown Durango will be taken back to the year 1900 with a Heritage Train Ride, Historic Trolley Tour, a Downtown Shoot-Out and of course the Victorian Ball. Sunday offers a tour of the Hermosa Cemetary.  Be sure not to miss out on all of the excitement the Durango Heritage Celebration has to offer.

All attendees are encouraged to actively participate in the celebration. Live the part by dressing up in your best Saloon Girl attire, Victorian gowns or Old West get up.  If you aren’t into dressing up, that’s ok too, just be sure to get involved. You can learn more about all of the activities scheduled for this weekend’s Durango Heritage Celebration at durangoheritagecelebration.org.
