Raising A Family in the Best Place in the World

Raising A Family in the Best Place in the World

Durango is, by many a family, regarded as the best place to raise a child. It's a small town, but it's got a lot to offer the little ones! Excellent programs for kids are available at The Smiley Building like dance classes, Music Together and piano lessons. A number of excellent pre-schools and Montessori schools are available for infants and toddlers such as The Children's House.  And Durango has the best playground available right out your backdoor. Perhaps you're already at that stage, but what if you are just now considering having a family and raising them in Durango? Durango has great stuff available for you too.

Pregnancy Power Hour- Serving Life Chiropractic hosts a monthly meet and greet where great practitioners present their schtick on having a baby. Great ideas on ways to get pregnant, how to stay healthy in your pregnancy, and on child-birth options are all presented at their monthly events. If you are currently pregnant or considering, don't miss out on the upcoming Pregnancy Power Hour this Saturday 10am-11am. Matt Kelly w/ Momentum Financial, Dr. Joy Kanevski of Joy of Life Family Medicine and Drs. Nick & Rachel of Serving Life Chiropractic Studio will be presenting.

Holistic Moms Network- The Durango Chapter of the Holistic Moms Network started up earlier this year. HMK is a non-profit organization committed to connecting parents who are interested in holistic health and green living.  They welcome new parents, expecting parents, those interested in becoming parents and all of the other members of the village that it takes to raise a child to participate in meetings.  They meet at Joy of Life Family Medicine/Amavine Midwifery on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 6pm.

The Red Tent- Coming to Durango soon is The Red Tent, a healing center for women of all ages. Robin Davis started The Red Tent because of her combined passions in being a doula, creating community, and supporting women through times of transition. Search for The Red Tent, Durango on Facebook for more information.

Last but not least, the newest and coolest place for wee ones in Durango is Baby Base Camp.  Baby Base Camp was created as a landing spot for parents who are transitioning back into the workforce. They have a special room available for parents who are heading back to work, but have a hard time being too far away from their little babes. They offer flexible and affordable child-care solutions built around the needs of PARENTS during the first year of their babies life. They've remodeled an old house in Historic Downtown Durango into a pretty sweet crib. This cool little thing they have created is worthy of checking out, visit them online at babybasecamp.org for more information.
