Toyed With :: A low-fi/alt-pro Photography Exhibition opens Friday, September 3 at the Open Shutter Gallery and features a collection of works created by artists who work in photography making images that have been "Toyed With" using toy cameras or alternative techniques.  After her show last year, Heather Leavitt Martinez - producer and co-founder of "Toyed With" - began to meet more alternative photographers from all over the world. Through the "Toyed With" exhibition, Martinez hopes to bring these artists together and establish that low-fidelity and alternative processes are alive and well in the world of contemporary photography.

Martinez moved to the Durango area 18 years ago and during her junior year at Baker University she was exposed to alternative processes in photography. It was at that time she started shooting with 8mm film and vintage cameras. She has studied with internationally known artist and photographer, Christopher James. Martinez's work is represented at Open Shutter Gallery and at www.heatherleavitt.com.

Chosen works for "Toyed With" come from Oregon, California, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Illinois, Tennessee, New York, Utah, Washington and Arizona. Viewers will see a variety of imagery including Leap, an archival ink print shot by Bryan David Griffith, Found Feathers, a silk cyanotype scarf by Matt Shapoff, and PJs Precious Things, a handmade pinhole image of a Chinese delivery box by Cally Iden.

Photographer and Director of Chase the Light Photography, Kit Frost was chosen as juror for the exhibition because of her work in Holga photography.  Leavitt Martinez stated she "personally admires Kit's work and felt she would be an excellent first year juror- setting the bar for works accepted for an excellent exhibit and to build the show in future years."

"Toyed With" runs from September 3 to October 8 at the Open Shutter Gallery in Durango, Colorado.  For more information go to www.toyedwithphoto.com.
