The major tourist attractions include Mesa Verde National Park, the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, Durango Mountain Resort (formerly Purgatory Ski Resort) and the San Juan National Forest. Many tourists arrive in Durango by way of air transportation through the Durango-La Plata County Airport.
