Setting up Marketing Goals

Before you jump onto the Net, you should know exactly what you expect to get out of it. While thousands of companies are rushing to join the Internet community, few realize the importance of setting realistic goals.

How to Write a Marketing Plan for your Web Site

Before you build your web site - answer these three basic questions:

1. Why do I want to be on the world wide web?

Think about this carefully and answer honestly. Setting realistic goals will save you valuable time and money.

2. Who is my target market? Who do I want to attract to my site?

The web audience is becoming quite diverse and growing at an incredible rate. Whoever you are trying to reach will affect your on-line marketing efforts as well as the type of content you offer and design elements. You will also need to determine if you will be targeting new prospects, existing customers or both.

3. What do you want your site to do?

What do you want to achieve with your web presence? To promote yourself or your company as cool and hip-to-the-'90's? Or set higher, more specific goals such as increase annual sales by 10% for the next year through on-line marketing.

Content!

Content is key to Internet success. It is the meat of what you have to offer (all the fun graphics, whistles and bells are just the icing on the cake). To attract and keep people coming back to your site - you need to deliver good quality information in a timely, organized fashion.

Build Company Awareness
The more people who are aware of who you are and what products and services you have to offer, the more likely they will be to buy.

Direct Response
In addition to awareness, companies may also apply direct response techniques to encourage customers to order products or request more information. Have a call to action - "order today and receive a free widget!"

Product or Service Demonstration
Here's your chance for show and tell. Display photos with a description of your product and how it works. This is also a great, low-cost way to test out new
