Durango Library Displays Henna Artwork

Durango, CO –  A henna display by middle school kids in the Del Alma middle school program is on display in the Children’s Room of the Durango Public Library.

Henna is a plant dye that is used to make temporary tattoos in many cultures. Painting with henna has been done for over 5,000 years throughout Africa, India, and the Middle East. Henna, traditionally used to mark the beginning of a new stage in a person’s life, was believed to bring good fortune and happiness.

The Del Alma students did research on henna and then created colorful artwork by tracing their hands and making their own henna designs. They decorated their pictures and then matted them.

This imaginative display will hang in the Children’s Room through March.
