Highways (Driving Directions to Durango, CO):

From Albuquerque, NM take I-25 north to Bernalillo, NM, then head northwest on US 550 north to Durango, CO. Approximately 220 miles, drive time of 3 to 3.5 hours.

From Colorado Springs, CO take I-25 South to Walsenburg, then take US 160 west to Durango. Approximately 300 miles, drive time of 5 hours.

From Denver, CO take I-25 south to Walsenburg, then take US 160 west to Durango. Approximately 640 miles, drive time of 6.5 hours.

From Grand Junction, CO – Take US 50 southeast to Montrose. Continue on US 550 south to Durango. Approximately 174 miles, drive time of 3 hours.

From Phoenix, AZ – Take I-17 North to Flagstaff, then US 89 North, turning right onto US 160 East just before Tuba City. Approximately 461 miles, drive time of 8 hours.
From Santa Fe, NM – Take US 84 North to Pagosa Springs, turn Left onto US 160 East. Approximately 214 miles, drive time of 4 hours.

From Salt Lake City, UT – Take I-15 South to Spanish Fork, to US 6 in a SE direction to I-70 East to Grand Junction. Take US 50 south to Montrose continuing on 550 South to Durango. Approx. 413 miles, drive time of 7 hours.

A trip to Durango is easy utilizing the Durango-La Plata County Airport (Airport Code: DRO).

The airport is now serviced by four airlines providing daily arrivals from:

Phoenix, AZ via US Airways,
Denver by United Express, and Frontier Airlines
Dallas/Fort Worth by American Airlines
This facility is located in La Plata County, 12 miles southeast of the City of Durango. Access to the airport is from US Hwy. 172. For travelers using private aircraft, charter services or scheduled commercial service, the facility offers the best of convenience, safety and security. Car rentals are available in the terminal through Avis, Hertz, Budget, National and Enterprise Rental Car Agencies.

Public Transportation:

The city of Durango offers a variety of options for public transportation through Durango Transit – or the “T” – which operates a variety of small buses and trolleys within the Durango municipal limits, including service to Downtown, Fort Lewis College, Mercy Medical Center and west and south Durango. All vehicles are equipped with bike racks. The city also operates an on-demand transportation service for the elderly or disabled. The Transit Center is located at 250 West 8th Street in Durango.

Road Runner Transit
The Road Runner Transit is a public transit service of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe, operated by the Southern Ute Community Action Programs. The transit makes four daily runs, Monday through Friday, between Ignacio and Durango, and is wheelchair accessible. Small pets in pet carriers are allowed. Trips are $3.00 each way. Durango Bus Center
The Durango Bus Center provides inter-city passenger, package delivery, and charter service. Currently inter-city service is provided by TNM&O, a private carrier that serves as an “interline” to Greyhound Bus. TNM&O serves La Plata County from Durango and San Juan County from Silverton. The service is a daily north-south route along US Highway 550, connecting Grand Junction and Albuquerque, NM. For additional information call (970) 259-2755.

Durango and the greater Four Corners region are served by numerous motor carriers and delivery services from all geographic areas of the United States. Durango is located away from the major metro areas in the southwest. If your major markets are the southwest or west coast areas, transportation from Durango is closer and more convenient than from Denver.
