Kayaking and Rafting in Durango Colorado

rafting in durangoRiver trips - The two arms of the Animas in the Durango - Silverton Area comprise two very distinct rafting experiences. Are you strong of heart and in good shape? Then we'll see you on the wild! Inaccessible Upper Animas, where Class IV and V rapids rip through 28 miles of spectacular San Juan mountain scenery before ending at the impassable Animas Gorge. The Upper Animas is for experienced rafters - it's some serious river!

If that is not your speed, take on the Lower Animas, "The River of Lost Souls," which lends itself well to novice and family trips. There are still thrills to be had in places like Smelter Sawmill and Santa Rita rapids. But because the place is gentler, you'll have the chance to ogle mining history and enjoy geological and natural points of interest that your river guide will point out to you. The Lower Animas runs right through the town of Durango making for easy embarking.
